My name is Ryan Kalbfus and the topic I have chosen to write about is how non-profit organizations best derive benefit for their fundraising effort by holding a raffle fundraiser. This for me hits home. You see I have had Type 1 Diabetes since the age of 6. My parents also have Type 1 and together we have been education, speaking out and fundraising for a Cure for many years now. Holding raffles for us is important on many levels. As part of the ones we throw, we ask for participants information so that we can reach out to them at another time. This communication can involve announcing an educational event, a fund raising event or a get together so others can meet.
Fundraising with a raffle can also create excitement and overall attention to the cause. Most raffles include a gathering or party to celebrate pulling the winners. And when folks come together for a good cause, they tend to come back time and time again.
Regular attendance from folks that “get it” and want to be a part of it means a lot for the effected. As mentioned before, being a Type 1 Diabetic can be challenging. But our family chooses to continue to do activities that bring awareness and money for a cure. A simple raffle can lead to this and so much more.
Raffles are often supported by companies or community organizations and once they see how much they mean to the children and adults that will benefit from them, they too will continue to come back and support it each year. Some often become sponsors for other events such as a walk or a gala. All of this from the simple idea to hold a raffle.
Lastly, a truly successful raffle can also bring a good amount of public awareness by using social media, online media and thru conversation. Which just means that the organization holding the raffle will receive much needed PR.
