Picture this; a little girl has just won their Showmanship class at the local county fair with their animal that she spent all year working with and preparing for show. It is both a joyous and exiting occasion but there is so much more that goes into creating such a prideful moment. I have been a proud member of 4-H for ten years and we are proud to encourage children in leadership and working skills for their future. We are known for community service and mostly county fair participation but when it comes to our decorations and getting what we need to keep the club running we rely on the donations and support from our community. We are one of many non-profit organizations across the United States that relies on fundraisers to help support our group.

One of the main benefits that supports our club is our yearly raffle that every kid and adult in our group takes part in. There is a simplicity to raffles such as ours that makes them both easy and profitable and fun. Children do not have to bother wondering who got what box of cookies or where their order forms went because with raffles they simply need to collect the money and a ticket. Parents also find them worlds calmer than bake sales or any other form of raising money. There is no hours of baking or wondering what to do with left over goods that will most likely end up as extra pounds on ones waist. The simplicity of raffle fundraisers is easy-going for both the club and its customers.

People who participate in raffles are more likely to spend less money than they would on expensive cookies or popcorn and perhaps more likely to buy. There is a no-haste, call-if-you-win ease to the nature of raffle sales that appeals to the modern society. People enjoy not having to worry if magazines got lost in the mail or when they are getting their food delivered by poor kids that have a hard time matching faces with names. I know because I was one of those kids and we forget, plain and simple. The forgetfulness makes its way around the circle and the only person who seems to get the brunt of it all is the customer who simply wanted one box of cookies. This is why I vouch for raffle sales; forgetful children will have less to forget. In the end the customers will be pleased even if they do not win because buying the tickets they know the money goes to the club.

The best part is that it goes to the club in the end and only a small portion to the prizes that could be had. There are no companies to haste with over who gets the twenty five percent of the profits because the majority of the club handles the money and distribution. In the end the kids will not only have money to operate and get needed supplies for projects but they will also learn the ethics in working with money. The raffle sales are wonderful for any non-profit group but let it not be overlooked that they are the provider to an idea becoming reality.
