  1. Describe how non-profit organizations, (including church groups, civic groups, youth sports organizations) can best derive benefit for their fundraising effort by holding a raffle fundraiser. Offer proposals for a) maximizing the sales of their raffle tickets b) prizes that would encourage and stimulate ticket sales c) suggested ways to motivate volunteers to sell more tickets.

Today, there are many organizations that are non-profit and need to find some way to earn money so that they may give it away or use it as needed. Using various types of fundraising techniques, organizations are able to raise such money. Some fundraising techniques are holding car washes, holding bake sales, using a restaurant to receive a percentage of the sales, and selling raffle tickets. In my personal opinion, selling raffle tickets is an effective way of fundraising, and it has benefits for both the winner and the organization. Although, an organization might not get the results they had hoped for. For example, people may choose to not participate in the raffle. People may not participate because the prize is not appealing to them, the raffle tickets are too expensive, or they are unaware of the organization that is selling them.

In order to maximize the benefits from a raffle ticket sale, the organization must brainstorm multiple factors. First, they must determine the price of the raffle tickets. I believe that the cheaper the price of the ticket, the more people will want to buy it. However, making the price of the tickets too cheap will result in the organization not profiting enough money. Also, another helpful idea to have bundle sales so that people will be influenced to buy more tickets for only a dollar less than buying all the tickets individually. For example, the company can sell each ticket for four dollars each and offer a bundle of selling five tickets for only eighteen dollars. By doing this, people will recognize that they can buy more tickets at a cheaper price and have more of a chance to win. This will benefit both the organization and the people.

Although you decrease the amount of money per raffle ticket, it does not guarantee that people will buy it. If a person is not appealed to the prize, they will not even take the chance to win it. As a non-profit organization, you must brainstorm a list of prizes that can appeal to people of all ages and genders. For example, a male would not be interested in entering a raffle for a nail salon trip. A good way to narrow down the choices of a prize is to think of places both men and women enjoy. This can include restaurants, movies, or electronics. Another idea for a neutral prize would be something from the organization that is selling the raffle tickets. This is a great way to promote your organization as well as fundraise.

Another factor that is crucial to maximizing product relies on when and where the tickets are sold. For example, if a church group is doing a raffle yet they only sell them at the early service of their church, they are not opening up their sales to the maximum amount of people. A non-profit group should be ready to sell their tickets at every feasible time. They need to get the most exposure to their product as well as people to buy the product. Also, instead of selling the tickets only at the place where the organization derives from, it is a good idea to sell them outside of popular areas such as restaurants, convenient stores, or malls. This will allow a larger crowd of people to be exposed to your sale as well as increase the number of tickets sold. However, when you sell your tickets at another location, you must make sure that you are representing your organization well. It would be a good idea to have posters and wear t-shirts with your organization’s name on them so people are aware of whom they are buying from.

While selling the tickets to people is difficult, it can also be difficult to motivate the members of your group to sell tickets. A great way to motivate them is to challenge them to sell a specific number of tickets. You can stress how much money they could make if they sell a certain amount which can hopefully inspire them to sell that many or more. Also, creating competition between the volunteers of your organization can help with the sales. For example, you could tell all of them that the person who sells the most tickets will win. During the time in which your organization is selling raffles, keep your members updated on who is in the lead. This will keep them motivated when they recognize someone is selling more than they are. Once the raffle has been drawn and the selling is over, tally up which member sold the most raffle tickets and award them with a nice gift card or a shirt that represents your organization.
