fundraiser-community

I have been a part of many fundraising campaigns throughout my lifetime. One campaign that had the most impact on my community was the Alpha phi Alpha Fraternity event. The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity is a non-profit organization that works towards providing young men guidance and knowledge that can be used in order to lead towards a prosperous future. The event was held Saturday morning out by Stone Mountain.

The overall goal of the fundraising campaign was to raise money for the Stone Mountain Community Center and raise awareness of its presence. Not many civilians within close proximity were aware of the Community Center. The only times when the Community Center was known would be during the summer time when AAU tournaments are held. The community center is offering Sports, Youth Development, Educational Training, Fitness, Birthday Parties, Weddings, Banquets, Conferences, and Luncheons.

We serve the community with our Outreach Programs to include community food & clothing bank. To foster inclusive community participation by providing an environmentally sound facility for arts, education, recreation, celebration, and locally based human services in order to increase opportunity for personal and collective growth in our community. Other than that, the Community Center only served as space available for rent. Therefore, the fundraising campaign was a perfect outlet to raise awareness and raise money as well.

The event lasted about two hours that day. There were plenty of activities going on all at once. There were merchant booths set up all in the parking lot; food was being sold, and kids were having fun. The Community’s Fire Department even brought out the fire truck to entertain the kids. There was a raffle contest that was going on throughout the event where an employee from the Community Center was handing out tickets to any attendee who was interested in partaking in the contest. Each ticket was sold for about one dollar each. There were different prizes offered at the end of the contest such as: iPad, basketballs, toys, and etc.

The money from the raffle contest would be used to remodel and expand the Community Center. Alongside all the fun and festivities, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity arranged a basketball tournament at the Community Center. It was a free of charge event. This tournament ran for about three hours. It was a 3v3 basketball tournament. The winning team of the event would earn a small trophy. Overall, the basketball tournament served as a marketing tool. The fundraising campaign was able to gain more attention through this event. Diversity was essential in order to standout from any other ordinary raffle ticket event.

At the end of the day, all that mattered was that we, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity group, was successful in raising money for the Stone Mountain Community Center.
