When I was in elementary school, our school would host an ice cream social. We were each given raffle tickets to try and sell so the school would get money for more books for the library, more gym equipment, or other school expenses. People would get really excited because there would be raffle prizes such as TVs and jumbo gift baskets. It was smart of the raffle ticket sales team to give elementary school kids these raffle tickets because it is hard for adults to turn away cute kids that want to support their school. Parents also want to support their school so they purchase them from their own kids. Kids are easily motivated with prizes so instead of just encouraging the kids to sell all the tickets, they should get prizes for selling all of their tickets such as pizza parties or dunking their favorite teacher in the dunk tank.

Sometimes it isn’t the people selling the raffle tickets that are what bringing the sales down, but the people that aren’t buying them. People want to make sure that their money is going to a good place even if they don’t win an extravagant prize. When people try selling the raffle tickets, they should say where the money is going and how the money that they got in previous raffles was spent. This will make more people confident that their money is going to be helping someone and there is even a surprise bonus that they might win something in the raffle as well.

Most people hate going door to door trying to sell raffle tickets and maybe it’s hard to get to all your friends and neighbor’s houses, so it might be more convenient to e-mail or text people if they want raffle tickets. The sender could attach a picture of themselves and give a brief explanation about why they want people to buy their raffle tickets and then send them out. The e-mail would have a link to where they could buy these raffle tickets online where they could print them out and then eventually see if they won. This method probably won’t be as successful as going door to door because it is harder to say no to someone’s face, however, it will give people the ability to sell from farther away. This also allows the less social people the ability to help out and sell tickets.

To encourage people to sell more tickets, you could also give them both and individual goal and a group goal. If someone doesn’t sell a lot of tickets, it will seem like they are not only letting themselves down, but also the group as a whole. My track team sells coupon books and if we sell a certain amount, then we all get to go out to eat so people who aren’t selling as many cards get more pressured that they are letting down the group.

Selling tickets hasn’t ever been my favorite thing because I don’t really enjoy asking strangers for money. But, if it is for a good cause, then I’d be more than happy to sell and or buy tickets. People just want to see that they are making a difference in their community and showing them that they will do that is the most important part in ticket sales.
