As a frequent shopper, I tend to notice a couple of raffles being drawn at certain businesses for certain occasions. Whether it is a grand opening, a reopening, an anniversary, a national holiday, or a special events, these kinds of events usually involves a raffle drawing. Raffle drawing is a good method to promote sales and spread word of the business as a form of advertisement. It encourages customers to participate while shopping at that particular business. While raffle tickets can be in hard-copy paper, raffle tickets can also take place on the Internet. Online raffles are convenient as the customer’s information can be input on the company’s database rather than hand typing from hard-copy paper. In addition, more people are able to sign up for the raffle online compared to walking up to a table at a mall. The store, DD’s Discount, sell men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, footwear, kitchen and bathroom appliance, games, toys, pet supplies, and etc. On grand opening day and every month from then on, a raffle drawing is held at the store. One lucky person will receive one thousand dollar gift card, and ten more people will receive fifty dollar gift cards. The day of the drawing have more customers than any other day of the month from my observation. Every time I show up for the actual raffle drawing, the entire store is packed with customers waiting for their names to be called. Once all the names have been called, people tend to stay and shop while others return to their vehicles. Last month on the month of October, I happen to be one of the lucky winners for the fifty dollar gift card giveaway. Beforehand, I had to write down my information on the giveaway card that was mailed to my home and submit the card at the store. I find this marketing tactic unique since mailing the raffle tickets to nearby neighborhoods encourage customer participation at the store. Not only did I receive my winning gift card, but I also receive a monthly newsletter in my email inbox from the DD’s Discount website that I provided my email address on the giveaway card.
It is important to keep in mind that not all raffle drawing events are successful. Businesses could giveaway more assets than income expected. It’s that sort of predicament that could lead to business in a bad position
