The Many Benefits of Raffle Ticket Sales

Mаnу thanks tо Business and Management student Tori Lonnemo fоr a particularly wеll thоught оut аnd informative “Impact a Lіfе” соllеgе scholarship essay thаt hіghlіghtѕ how and whу ѕеllіng raffle tісkеtѕ for your fundrаіѕеr is a grеаt way tо raise money.

Tori explores ѕоmе wonderful аnd реrѕоnаl rеаѕоnѕ as tо whу holding a rаfflе іѕ not оnlу a grеаt fundrаіѕіng орроrtunіtу but also offers several specifics on how a raffle benefited a good cause.

Philanthropy is something that helps better the world by using time in order to help enrich another person’s life. Without it people can lose connection easily, and stop realizing how important reaching out to one another can be. There are many ways to give to someone in need: you can donate money, you can donate time, you can spread the word to those around you. Connecting to your community can help you grow as a person as well as help build up those around you.

I have always loved donating my time for philanthropy, I think it’s so critical to give back and create a strong connection with those around you. Because of this, I was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority during my undergrad. My chapter held philanthropy in high importance and we worked regularly to ensure we were doing our part for the community around us.

The mission for Gamma Phi Beta is to build strong girls- now this doesn’t mean we didn’t care about everyone, but young girls are prime victims to losing themselves in unfair and unrealistic expectations. Gamma Phi made it our mission to provide support to these girls and we worked hard with many different charities.

Every year our chapter holds a large event to raise money for different philanthropies that we had chosen that year. There were a few that seemed to be voted for every year which included summer enrichment camps and philanthropies that provided free custom wigs to children that have been affected by different diseases. We always set a monetary goal to reach. Because we supported more than one philanthropy, and the money would be split evenly, it was important to raise as much as possible. Our goal would range but it was always upwards of 15,000.

In order to reach these goals we had to come up with a good idea, and many years ago the members did- a raffle based event. Every year each member would go to different businesses and ask for donations of any sort- money, product, or service. While each member had to goal to get at least three donations, many went above and beyond. With these donations we would make “theme baskets” and label with an approximate value and that would designate the amount of raffle tickets needed to enter to win that drawing.

In addition to these baskets, there was also money being raised by ticket sales and monetary donations. With all of this, we were always able to have a huge event with games, food, and the baskets with no cost and all the proceeds going to the charities.

These events have always been a huge success, members and families would come. Members of the philanthropies would come and talk about how much the donations meant, and there would even be entertainers come that had ties to the charities. Seeing all of these people come together to help others is such an amazing thing to witness. When people group together amazing things can happen and I witnessed this yearly. This changed my perspective in many ways. It helped me grow as a person and realize the impact anyone can have if they aim to do so. It may seem like you’re only a drop in an ocean, but when many drops come together it is easy to make a difference.

Because of the enthusiasm everyone felt towards helping others we always reached our goal. The last year that I was a member we raised close to 15,000 dollars for the charities through the raffle. This money helped fund camp for underprivileged kids and funded multiple custom wigs for kids with cancer and other life altering diseases.

It is easy to fall back and just be a spectator through life. It’s easier to not go above and beyond, and it certainly is easier to prioritize yourself over others. However, real growth and change comes when you give a piece of yourself to something else. It was always an honor to work aside people that had such a drive to help those around them, and that helped me grow into the hardworking person I am today.
