I have participated in events around my community that have helped the people that desperately needed it the most. Our school and my church were looking for various ways of funding the needed projects for everyone living in the community. Everything that my community has tried failed, such as car wash, selling of products, and fun events. Then came my idea that I would hope revitalized the community, which is by holding a raffle fundraiser. At first, all my friends and leaders of the organization were skeptical that a fundraiser would be capable of bringing money into the community in order to improve the quality of life for everyone.

So what I had to do in order to persuade the church to take a part of the raffle was by outlining a plan that would bring in the most amount of money, and for the church it was always the Christmas season that everyone is in the spirit of giving and helping others. As a community we were able to create the biggest raffle in our town, the Cheerful Christmas Raffle. The prizes for the community were things that everyone had their eyes on such as: electronics, gift cards, basket full of candy, heaters, and gift card to grocery stores. And everyone that participated in the raffle would be able to attend the event where one of the sponsors of the church would cook warm food during the cold hard winter.

This was what the community needed, an event that would draw people from all around and be willing to fully participate in. They were all asking how they could help improve the church and have heard about the “Cheerful Christmas Raffle” through word of mouth from their friends and family. I knew that the raffle event will be the biggest hit and would go down in the history book for our community. We priced the tickets at $10 a ticket, which also included the tasty dinner for everyone that participated in. Everyone saw that the prizes were really good, but they felt that helping the church improve is an even better reason to be contributing their money to the prize pool.

In the end I was happy to create and help lead the raffle event that people would be talking about for months. As an entire community, we were able to raise a grand total of $15,000. This was as a result of the raffle and people donating directly to the Church because they saw how everyone was eager to take part of the church raffle. Prizes were given out to the winners, and even the people that did not win still walked out happy that the money was able went to a great and caring cause. What came out of the “Cheerful Christmas Raffle” was that we were able to add new rooms and extensions to the church, put money toward future programs, and have a larger budget to help the unfortunate. If I had the chance to go back in time, I would have suggested the idea of a raffle earlier to help the community out even more.
