Non-profit organizations can best benefit for their fundraising effort by holding a raffle fundraiser. Other ways of fundraising have been proven to be not as effective as raffle fundraisers due to raffles being spontaneous, unbiased, and completely random. This essay will explain how non-profit organizations can maximize their sales of raffle tickets, prizes that would raise ticket sales, and ways to motivate volunteers to sell more tickets.
Maximizing sales on raffle tickets can be very hard, but there are approaches to make any event successful. The first approach a non-profit organization can use is location; people are more generous if they are surrounded by a warm, welcoming, and lively area like a park or a convention room. Secondly, In exchange for raffle tickets or special tickets that aren’t put into the raffle selection basket, the people who are supporting the event can exchange the raffle or special tickets for food or a special activity. Providing food or an activity can greatly increase the chances of someone purchasing multiple tickets. People who feel uncomfortable with the uncertainty of winning the raffle will be more likely to find the food or activity more appealing. lastly, the last attempt at maximizing raffle ticket sales is inviting a special guest or celebrity to show their support for the chosen cause or organization. Guests who attend an event to see a special guest or celebrity would most likely increase the probability of that person to purchase a raffle ticket.
Prizes are the most important piece of raffle ticket events for non-profit organizations because depending on what is being given away, this can peak the interest of thousands of people who feel like they have a good chance to win and those individuals who want to help the fundraiser. Great gifts are, but not limited to: concert tickets, couples massages, tickets to sporting events, gift cards, and electronics devices. while these gifts are important, so are the gifts that are very cost effective like apparel supporting the organization or fundraiser, discounts or coupons to local stores, and smaller amount of money on gift cards. This increases the chances of people winning an item and leaving the guest with a more satisfied feeling, making them more likely to attend the organizations events in the future.
In order to motivate volunteers to sell more tickets the organization should implement an incentive, such as, whoever sells the the most tickets receives concert tickets, movie tickets, or a paid stay at a quality hotel for a day. These items would encourage a friendly competition to see who could sell the most tickets in an allotted amount of time. Competition would be the sole motivator to help volunteers sell more tickets because people who are in competition usually will go to the extremes to insure that they will win the prize. If an organization were to use this tactic to increase sales in raffle tickets and gave the volunteers four weeks to sell tickets, the organization could keep in contact with the volunteers giving information about the competition, the amount of tickets sold and given can insure that the volunteers are not pocketing any extra money or donations, the organization can tell the volunteers that the “race” is close, and if the competition is completely one sided the organization could stop giving information in order to keep the volunteers selling tickets.
These tactics will insure that the raffle event or fundraiser will be a success and will leave the non-profit organization, the guests, and the volunteers feeling satisfied with the event. Selling raffle tickets can be difficult, these tactics can exponentially increase the money raised for the organization in comparison to other fundraising efforts which can be biased, harder to organize, more expensive, less satisfying to guests, and not nearly as effective.
