A Blessing to Be Involved in a Charitable Fundraiser by Jolene Anna Griffith

A Blessing to Be Involved in a Charitable Fundraiser by Jolene Anna Griffith

My family and I have participated in the successful Centralia Christian School Auction Fundraising campaign and other fundraising events over the last few years. This year’s auction was themed “The Olive Branch”. We used this name because the olive signifies the good of charity, is evident from the signification in the Word not only of an olive, but also of oil. It was with olive oil, together with spices, that the priests and kings were anointed, and it was with olive oil that the lamps were trimmed (Exod. 30:24; 27:20).

The reason olive oil was used for anointing and for lamps was that it represented all that is celestial, and therefore all the good of love and of charity; for the oil is the very essence of the tree, and is as it were its soul, just as the celestial, or the good of love and of charity, is the very essence or the very soul of faith; and hence oil has this representation. That oil signifies what is celestial, or the good of love and of charity.

The 2015 auction was a great success and our goals and expectations were exceeded by the amount and quality of volunteers and our charitable community, as a result we raised the most the school has seen in 25 years which amounted to 50,000.00 dollars.

The auction consisted of the silent and live auctions, multiple raffles like; gas raffle, tuition raffle which pays one year of tuition, door prize raffle and penny raffle as well as the “call from the heart” donations which money is raised for special project for the school. Last year the donations paid for a new play yard.

The auction is an important community event that helps prepare our young people to become tomorrow’s Christian leaders as we raise funds to maintain academic excellence, keep tuition affordable by helping to subsidize the cost of families in need, keep class sizes small, maintain dedicated and top of the line educated teachers, continue exciting and educational clubs and events and provide leading edge technology and programs for students.

I have participated in the auction for the last three years but this year was the most memorable for me. This year I was involved in every piece of the auction puzzle from the technology aspect like social media promotions and radio broadcasting to the procurement of auction items and it was no easy puzzle to put together. It was challenging and the excitement I had for what we were doing kept me buzzing during the day and up at night! I was able to intimately interact with the teachers, staff, community volunteers and families, which enriched the love and respect I have for them and the mission of this school.

When the auction was over I felt accomplished with a very happy and satisfied heart. I volunteer at the school many days out of the year and that time spent allows for me and others the chance to view the benefit the children, families and community receive from the teamwork accomplished at the auction. I feel truly blessed to be able to give my time and energy to such a wonderful cause.
